Curriculum Development as an Innovation Project

1. Seminar ‘Bologna and the idea of ‘New Learning’ (2/3 hours)
a. The Bologna system: more then a structural framework
b. Bologna: Qualification Framework, Learning outcomes, Dublin descriptors
c. New Learning: Competence oriented higher education
d. Our society asks for competent starters
e. General qualifications for higher education
f. Professional qualifications for competence learning
g. Consequences for:
a. The educational approach: authentic learning environments;
b. The design of the program: integration;
c. The design of the courses: coherence;
d. Evaluation criteria and methods: exams, assessments;
e. The teacher as coach, expert, innovator;
f. Internships;
g. Portfolio (PDP) and Competence Developing Plan (CDP).
h. Example: Design School of Communication and Journalism, Ede, Nl., practical experiences in the development of a new curriculum, since 2000.
i. Assignment for preparing the workshop: Analysis of the Karoli Gaspar curriculum. All participants will bring a course which they developed.
2. Workshop: Curriculum development as an Innovation project (2/3 hours)
a. The participants analyze the materials they brought in small teams: curriculum information, course information, project descriptions, exams
b. The participants report their conclusions and proposals for improvements and innovation
c. When the teams are selected, develop a competence based part of the curriculum for the Karoli Gaspar communication department.
